The Simpsons Movie was Worth the Wait. Fantastic!

The Simpsons Movie is a 2007 animated comedy film based on the animated television series The Simpsons and directed by David Silverman. The film was produced by James L. Brooks, Matt Groening, Al Jean, Mike Scully, and Richard Sakai and written by eleven of the television series’ most prolific writers: Scully, Jean, Brooks, Groening, George Meyer, David Mirkin, Mike Reiss, John Swartzwelder, Jon Vitti, Ian Maxtone-Graham, and Matt Selman. It stars the regular television cast of Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer, Pamela Hayden, and Tress MacNeille and features Albert Brooks in a prominent guest role, as well as Tom Hanks and Green Day in smaller ones.

After previous attempts to create a film version of The Simpsons had failed because of script length and lack of staff, production began in 2001. Numerous plot ideas were conceived by the writers, with Matt Groening’s being developed into the film. The script was re-written one hundred times, continuing even after animation had begun. This meant that “two films’ worth” of finished material was cut, including cameos from Isla Fisher, Minnie Driver, Erin Brockovich, and Kelsey Grammer. Tie-in promotions were made with 7-Eleven, who transformed select stores into Kwik-E-Marts, and other companies such as Burger King. The film premiered in Springfield, Vermont, which won the right to hold it through a Fox competition.

The Ren & Stimpy Show

June 5, 2007 at 2:23 pm (Comedy, Movies)

Ren and Stimpy Show

The Ren and Stimpy Show is an American animated television series created by Canadian animator John Kricfalusi.[1] The series follows the adventures of the eponymous characters: Ren Höek, a neurotic “asthma-hound” chihuahua, and Stimpson J. Cat (a.k.a. Stimpy) — a simpleminded cat. They wander around in nonsensical adventures reminiscent of the Golden Age of American animation.[2] Kricfalusi created the characters around 1979, while working on low-budget TV cartoons. The two characters were originally conceived as unrelated doodles until Kricfalusi’s co-worker, Joel Fajnor, advised Kricfalusi to pair them together.[3]

Though a product of the children’s cable network Nickelodeon, The Ren & Stimpy Show had a reputation for subversive gross-out humor, often involving nasal mucus and flatulence.[2] While primarily controversial for grotesque imagery and violence[2], the series also lampooned aspects of western culture, such as materialism[4] and superstition.[5] In 1992 John Kricfalusi, the show’s creator (and voice of Ren), was removed from the show, with production being moved from his Spümcø studios to Games Animation[6], where it stayed until its cancellation in 1996. It can currently be seen on Nickelodeon spinoff channel Nicktoons and was featured as part of Nick Rewind broadcasts in 2006.
